Patrimonium

Completion period: 01.2017 - 01.2020

Project value: 98,633,924 PLN (including 17,160,160 PLN on the Jagiellonian Library's side)

Project "Patrimonium - digitization and access to Polish national heritage from the collections of the National Library and the Jagiellonian Library" received funding under the 'Digital Poland' Operational Programme, Measure 2.3 "Digital availability and usability of public sector information", Sub-measure 2.3.2 "Digital access to cultural resources".

The project was created to provide access to digital versions of library collections that constitute a valuable and unique Polish cultural heritage. The digitized cultural resources come from the two largest libraries in Poland: the National Library (BN) and the Jagiellonian Library (JL), which collections, due to their exceptional value and importance, contribute to the National Library Fond under the relevant legislative acts.

All objects selected for the project belong to the public domain and have been made available on the Polona portal and the Jagiellonian Digital Library website. Accordingly, access to the National Library Fond is unlimited.

The implementation of the project lasted three years. By 2020, approximately one million objects have been digitized, of which 348,734 documents are JL objects. This includes 5,500 manuscripts, 10,000 old prints, 550 map sheets, 50 atlases, 2,000 photographs and engravings, 4,000 music prints, 13,740 issues of underground press, 1,046 leaflets, 1,672 posters, and 310,176 periodicals. During the project, a total of 8,787 objects were subjected to conservation and bookbinding procedures, of which 2,856 objects in the Conservation Section and 5,931 objects in the Binding and Preservation Section.
