Books are ready to be picked up 1 hour after receiving an e-mail confirming their request.

The books from the Main Storage and the books that have been reserved will wait for 5 business days from their requesting or returning by the previous user.

Anyone of the three documents is necessary:
  • valid library card
  • activated electronic student ID (ELS) with a hologram for the current semester
  • activated doctoral student ID (ELD) with a hologram for the current semester

No, because before borrowing books outside, the request slip has to be hand-signed by the owner of the library card, ELS, or ELD.

Full responsibility for the borrowed books rests with the undersigned patron. They must not be handed over to other people or institutions.

Books can be borrowed for 3 months by:

  • JU academic staff members
  • JU doctoral students
  • JU Archives employees
  • other JU staff members
  • JU faculty and institute libraries
  • members of the academic staff and doctoral students of other Krakow universities
  • libraries of other Krakow universities

Books can be borrowed for 1 month by:

  • JU students
  • students of other Krakow universities
  • Krakow scholarly, cultural and educational institutions
  • other patrons possessing borrowing rights

Books can be renewed on one’s own after logging into the patron account before the due date, provided no reservation has been made for them by another patron. When this is no longer possible,  one can contact the Circulation Desk via phone. There is no limit to the number of consecutive renewals as long as the validity period of the patron account has not expired.

The borrowed books can be returned in person or through services of someone else at the Circulation Desk. There is also an option to send the books by mail at one’s own expense to the address of the Jagiellonian Library (al. Mickiewicza 22, 30-059 Kraków) with the note "Wypożyczalnia" (the Circulation Desk). One should keep in mind that the day of delivery to the Circulation Desk counts as the actual date of return, not the date of dispatch.

Once the due date expires, a fine of 0.30 PLN is charged for each started calendar day. The fine is not payable, if the book is returned within  10 days after the due date  (calendar days, including the Library’s closure days, are taken into account).
Five days before the book's due date the patron receives a reminder e-mail . which is of purely informative character; not receiving it does not exempt one from being fined for overdue books.

On the due date, an admonition requesting return the books is sent via e-mail or traditional mail. The patron is charged 7 PLN,  if it is sent via traditional mail. The fine for overdue books is charged independently from sending the admonition.

If there is no response on the part of the patron, the Library is entitled to take legal action to compel him/her either to return the book or refund  its value as defined in the Library Director's ordinance.
Gross violation of the Library’s terms and conditions, including returning damaged books or not returning them at all despite repeated reminders, provides grounds for depriving the patron of the right to use the Library for a period up to 12 months.

In case of losing or damaging a book, one should as soon as possible report this fact to the Circulation Desk and follow the  instructions on further proceedings. The damaged or regained book remains the property of the Jagiellonian Library.

No, books from faculty and institute libraries are to be picked up/returned/renewed only in the respective library.
