It has been 45 years since the historic centre of Krakow, the former capital of Poland, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. To mark the occasion, a panel exhibition entitled “45 Years of Restoration of Krakow – a UNESCO World Heritage City”, prepared by the Museum of Krakow together with the Social Committee for the Restoration of Krakow’s Monuments, was opened in the lobby of the Jagiellonian Library.

The exhibition presents the contribution of the Social Committee for the Restoration of Krakow’s Monuments (SKOZK) to the preservation of Krakow’s architectural monuments from the inception of the World Heritage List in 1978 to the present day. Its activities have been positively influenced by historic changes such as the political transformation of 1989-1990 and Poland's accession to the European Union in 2004. At the time, the Committee's composition was expanded to include experts in the field of conservation and preservation, and its efforts were greatly supported by EU grants. The photo series “Chronicle of town (1978-2023)” records selected cultural and political events that took place in Kraków during this period, while a number of photographs document the process of renovating historical buildings and their final appearance.
